A Midwestern at heart, I have found homes in Vermont, the Philippines, New York City and Oregon. Growing up as a middle child in a family of seven children, I soon realized my role as a listener, peace maker and negotiator. These traits naturally drew me into the teaching profession.

I intentionally began my career as an educator and never could I have imagined where the path would lead. When I started my undergraduate studies in elementary education I intended to be the best third grade teacher that the world has ever seen. This was the first intentional choice I made in cultivating my career. I have continued to explore this dynamic field in various roles by challenging my own perspectives and assumptions about what learning and education can look and feel like. These opportunities provided a space for me to develop my skills as a learner, teacher, instructor, coach, manager and director.

But first Here are ten things to know about me!

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton swore me in as a Peace Corps Volunteer at the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

According to 23&Me, I have more Neanderthal DNA than 99% of their customers. I take great pride that I also hold the title within my family.

Post college and pre Peace Corps, three best friends and I spent 33 days in a car driving from Chicago to the West Coast back to Vermont and we didn’t eat fast food once!

When I was a month old I was diagnosed with Spinal Meningitis, although as an adult I do not have any lasting effects from this diagnosis, as a child learning to read proved to be difficult. Mrs. Floyd, my reading teacher, was the reason I became an educator.

I once was charged by an elephant in Gabon and it's trunk was only inches from my back.

My name is pronounced ‘Jackie’ but spelled Jaci. It’s okay, 99% of people mispronounce it!

I am still best friends with my kindergarten best friend.

I was once bit by a monkey at Angkor Wat in Cambodia

I have been practicing yoga for ten years. What I enjoy most about yoga is that you can practice anywhere in the world, all you need is a mat size space.

My dog was named Ryan Gosling at the shelter because he is such a handsome guy! I decided to keep this as his legal name but I affectionately call him ‘Rye”.
