Thinking Beyond Borders

My work as an International Program Leader and Recruitment Manager with Thinking Beyond Borders continued to expanded my views on what and how education can look.

Leading two Global Gap Year programs and a Semester Gap program allowed me to witness and be apart of transformational changes and growth amongst my students. I was able to create spaces for students to explore and challenge themselves academically, socially, culturally and spiritually. From these experiences I can attest and continue to advocate for the critical importance of international and cross-cultural education.

Thinking Beyond Borders does not use formal assessment tools to track the progress of students learning. Rather, the responsibility of learning is solely that of the student with the guidance and support from Program Leaders. Mentoring students through this process was one of the most rewarding aspects of this job. The outcomes of these mentorships currently lie amongst the relationships I hold with my former students. Although not formal, I do believe in the power of a photograph. As a Program Leader I often turned to my camera (aka my iPhone) to help capture and display students learning.
